About Shonach
Shonach Mirk-Robles received her classical training in some of the world’s best schools, including the School of American Ballet, The Royal Ballet School of London and Maurice Béjart’s MUDRA. She was a member of Bejart’s famed Ballet of the Twentieth Century from 1974 to 1986 and also performed with Switzerland’s Zurich Operhaus, Germany’s Hamburg Ballet and Italy’s Ballet de Torino. Béjart entrusted her to restate several of his ballets around the world, including “The Firebird” for the Alvin Ailey company, “The Rite of Spring” for the Paris Opera, “Le Marteau sans Mâitre” for the Opera de Mulhouse and “Le Concours” for the Béjart Ballet Lausanne, to name a few.
Shonach’s advanced studies in Spiraldynamik® have become the major influence in her method of teaching classical ballet. After a series of accidents forced her to abandon her career as a dancer, she decided to dedicate the next part of her professional life to helping dancers use their bodies in more efficient manners to avoid injury and enjoy long careers. Realising that most dance education provides little understanding of the bodies fine tuning, she studied Spiraldynamik® while also completing her MDEd. The combination of these two advanced trainings has dramatically informed her approach to teaching technique through the integration of Spiraldynamik® principles. At the request of BDF, Shonach created a Spiraldynamik® for Dancers curriculum that she began teaching at the festival since 2010. She founded her own school in Zurich in 1998 and has taught internationally in the US, Japan, Spain, France and Germany.
