ALEX SPRINGER (he/him/his), maker, performer, teacher, and video artist, is currently an Assistant Professor of Contemporary Dance Practice at the University of Florida. His choreographic projects with Xan Burley have been presented by the American Dance Festival, Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out, Center for Performance Research, Danspace Project’s DraftWork, Movement Research at the Judson Church, and the 92Y, among others. As scholars, Springer and Burley are collaborating on two papers, one with an Engineer on the application of Value Stream Mapping to Dance Composition pedagogy and another with an architect on the site-responsive design of dance and architecture.

He was a member of Doug Varone and Dancers from 2007-17 and has also worked with Alexandra Beller, Jeanine Durning, Adriane Fang, Angie Hauser, Heidi Henderson, Donnell Oakley, and the Metropolitan Opera Ballet. During his tenure with the Varone company, he acted as the rehearsal director, company manager, and has maintained engagements as a video editor, archivist, and répétiteur. As a video artist he has worked on projects with Yanira Castro, Juliana May, Michelle Boulé, among others and is currently the Administrative Fellow in Digital Archives for the Dance Studies Association.
